MSVMA will welcome singers in grades 7-12 to our Vocal Jazz Intensive (VJI) on October TBD 2027 at Location TBD.  Morning sessions will include topics on improvisation, circle singing, jazz warm-ups, and jazz vocal technique.

Students will rehearse with clinicians, perform, and participate in a variety of topic sessions. In addition, students will have the opportunity to sing two pieces at the evening concert as part of a mass choir.

Participation in the VJI is highly encouraged for students interested in auditioning for the All-State Vocal Jazz Choir.

One of the audition songs will be learned and performed at the VJI.

Eligibility

MSVMA welcomes high school students to participate in its Vocal Jazz Intensive and All-State Vocal Jazz Program. Participants must be enrolled and in good standing in their school's vocal music program. Their school must be a member of MSVMA.

Audition Requirements

VJI is a day to learn about and sing vocal jazz, regardless of experience. We want to encourage students who are interested in singing jazz to attend and bring their knowledge back to their school program. The day also will prepare students for the All-State Jazz Honors Choir audition and encourage participation in All-State Jazz even if students do not regularly sing vocal jazz in their school programs.

Students must apply for VJI by October TBD at 11:59 p.m. Applications open September TBD.

Fees

The fee of $25, must be paid by credit card according to instructions students will receive upon application.  Fees are non-refundable.
