Musical Theatre Intensive

MSVMA will welcome 100 singers in grades 9-12 to our Musical Theatre Intensive on Saturday, October 4 at Livonia Churchill High School. We are delighted to have an incredible panel of clinicians from the faculty of the University of Michigan Musical Theatre Department including Catherine A. Walker. 

Students will have the opportunity to sing for clinicians and participate in a variety of topic sessions. 

Eligibility

MSVMA welcomes high school students to participate in its Musical Theatre Solo and Ensemble Festivals. Participants must be enrolled and in good standing in their school's vocal music program. Their school must be a member of MSVMA.

Audition Requirements

• Students will be required to provide a URL address to a YouTube video for the audition. Singers should perform  32 measures of a musical theater song, preferably accompanied.
• Live music accompaniment is not required.
• You DO NOT need to use the same piece for the intensive that you use for your audition. They can be different. 

• Submit a PDF copy of your cut in the Google Drive folder provided on the registration form. Students should also bring a printed copy of the cut with them if selected.

Any problems with submissions should be reported to kathrynwitkowski@msvma.org before the deadline of September 15 at 11:59 PM. 

The fee of $65 must be paid via credit card according to instructions students will receive via email upon acceptance. 

Musical Theatre Intensive Schedule

Schedule: Check-in begins at 8 AM

Event time: 8:30 AM - 5 PM

Lunch: Lunch is not provided. Students must pack a lunch. 

Accompanists provided. 

Students will be divided into four groups of 25. Groups will rotate and have the opportunity to work with each clinician. After working with the clinicians, the top eight performers will be identified and be given the opportunity to perform in a mini-recital; from this recital, two outstanding soloists and two alternates will be chosen. The final two outstanding soloists will be invited to perform during Specialized Choral Hour at Michigan Music Conference in January 2026, as well as offered a position in the MSVMA All-State Musical Theatre Honors Ensemble. 

Schedules and itinerary are emailed to participating students and the MSVMA teacher of their school.
