6-7-8-9 Honors Choir

Participation in Honors Choirs is by audition for students who are members in good standing in their school’s vocal music program and whose schools are MSVMA members. SA Honors Choir is organized for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. SAA and TTB Honors Choirs are composed of 7th, 8th and 9th grade students.

Each school is able to send any combination totaling up to 32 singers, but no more than 8 auditioning groups per ensemble (SA, SSA, TTB).   Example: you can send 8 SSA trios (24 singers), which will allow you to send 4 SA duets (8 Singers) equaling 32 total singers.

Audition Information

New for the 2018-19 Honors Choir

Regional Auditions will be ONLINE.

Please use the links under "Important Documents" for information on new procedures. If you have any questions, please email Gail Worden or Nathan Masterson.

Students may audition only once. Singers will audition in SA duets, SSA trios or TTB trios for the Honors Choirs. Singers will be allowed to audition in SS or SA duet in the absence of a SSA trio and in TT or TB duet in the absence of a TTB trio. Singers will be adjudicated on an individual basis allowing students to be selected for the State Honors Choir from their duet or trio.

Each SA and TTB entry will be able to download an accompaniment recording that will be used in the audition. SSA auditions will be a cappella.

New for the 2018-19 year. All Auditions will be completed ONLINE. Those auditioning are required to attend the rehearsal with an Honors Choir director in a clinic situation and perform in the regional concert to be considered for the State Honors Choir. The clinic and audition pieces are to be prepared in advance of the regional day. The audition piece is to be memorized.

Audition results, forms, and general information will be emailed to the directors within three working days after the regional performance. It is the director’s responsibility to print as many forms as necessary for his/her singers. Music will be given out during the first rehearsal.
