MEME - Michigan Educators Male Ensemble announces auditions for two spots for 2021-22 1st Tenor Baritone or Bass
MEME was created in 2013. We are a 10-voice semi-professional TTBB ensemble made up of vocal music educators from around the state. At the start of each academic year, we meet for an opening retreat to work on repertoire for the year, then complete 3-4 performances per year, either concerts, workshops or conventions. We do not meet regularly for rehearsal throughout the year, but we do meet occasionally for refresher rehearsals as the performance calendar dictates. Singers in the group are reimbursed for mileage and other travel-related expenses. Past performances have included the Battle Creek Symphony, Intercollegiate Men’s Choruses National Seminar, at Bay View Festival, MSVMA Summer Workshop, Michigan Music Conference, with the U.S. Army Chorus and as an opening act for Take 6.
In order to audition, you must be involved as a music educator in the state of Michigan (K-12, collegiate, church, or private instruction.). To download an application form, click here. To download the audition material, click here.
For audition requirements, see the attached application. You can find more about us at our website: http://www.michiganmeme.com.

Congratulations to 2021 Leep Scholars Anna Doering and Caleb Sinclair!
“On behalf of the MSVMA Board of Directors, congratulations to our recipients of the Carolyn Leep Scholarship, Anna Doering and Caleb Sinclair! I hope this award helps fuel the fire of your passion for choral music education!” Mark Krempski, Past President and Leep Scholarship Committee Chair
Anna Doering Bangor Township Schools John Glenn High School and Christa McAuliffe Middle School
Anna is the director of choirs and music director of three school musicals and conducts the pit orchestra for two of these musicals. She also leads the elementary youth choir at the Midland Center for the Arts. In her 7th year of MSVMA membership, Anna became an active MSVMA volunteer in her sophomore year of university as a founding member of the MSVMA Student Advisory Board. This group organized the first MMC collegiate student breakfast and worked to increase collegiate membership. Additionally, she was part of the MMC sessions “The 10 Things They Don’t Teach You in College” presented in 2016. A graduate of Michigan State University, Anna has completed one summer of the Michigan State University Summer Masters in Choral Conduction program and will use the Leep Scholarship to continue in this program.
“It is an honor to receive the Carolyn F. Leep Scholarship. My goal is to create a classroom where all students feel welcome and valued. Teaching choir is more than just teaching music, it is shaping the whole person. Students have a unique opportunity to be successful as they create music and learn who they are as human beings. As we move toward normal, choir will be an even greater place for healing and self-expression.” Anna Doering
Caleb Sinclair Capac Community Schools
Caleb is the director of choirs and general music teacher at Capac Community Schools. He recently served as the director of music at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Troy. An advocate for musical theater, Caleb has served as lead and vocal director for Fiddler on the Roof, Mary Poppins and Annie. In his 5th year of MSVMA membership, Caleb graduated from Calvin University with a major in K-12 choral music. He is pursuing a master of music degree in choral conducting at Oakland University and will use the Leep Scholarship to support this goal.
"Thank you to MSVMA for this incredible honor. I am so proud to be part of this dynamic organization that not only supports students in their pursuit of vocal excellence, but directors like myself as well. This is an awesome help to me, and I am eternally grateful!" Caleb Sinclair

2022 Michigan Music Conference Call for Interest Sessions
You still have time to submit your interest session for the 2022 Michigan Music Conference. Your MSVMA/MMC Planning Committee is looking for interest sessions that will inspire MSVMA members to Rebuild, Restore, Reinforce. With 2020-2021 being anything but normal, many programs will be rebuilding during the 2021/2022 school year with foundational skills. Share your tired and true practices with colleagues attending MMC 2022.
We are planning with great optimism we will be able to meet together in Grand Rapids for the 2022 conference. The MSVMA Planning Committee hopes you will consider submitting an interest session to share your insightful practices and creative teaching techniques that will inspire all who attend.
Be sure you have the MMC 2022 dates marked on your calendar - January 27, 28 & 29, 2022.
Interest deadline is Wednesday, June 30, 2021
MMC 2022 Interest Session Submission
Session information to follow!
We are looking to fill the following volunteer positions: Supervisor for State S&E Site for State S&E South Please contact kathycunningham@msvma.org for more information.
With the virtual content, MSVMA would still like to create a plan for an in-person component. Connecting with friends and colleagues from around the state is one of the best things about Summer Conference. We would like to establish a few "Conference Hubs" at schools around the state where members could travel and 'attend' the Summer Conference together in smaller pods. We are looking for schools willing to host. Members could choose to travel to a distant hub, go to the nearest hub, or simply enjoy the conference from home. If you and your school could be a conference hub, please let us know by filling out this form.
Host Sites Needed!
Now is the time to get your interest sessions submitted for the 2022 Michigan Music Conference. In addition to the sessions the MSVMA headliner, Dr. Edith Copley from Northern Arizona University, will present, the planning committee is looking for interest sessions that will inspire MSVMA members to Rebuild, Restore, Reinforce. With 2020-2021 being anything but normal, many programs will be rebuilding during the 2021/2022 school year with foundational skills. Share your tired and true practices with colleagues attending MMC 2022.
