LAST CALL for 2023 Michigan Music Conference Call for Interest Sessions Dr. Derrick Fox from the University of Nebraska-Omaha, will be our headliner. Diversity and Inclusion in Action is our theme and will be the focal point for interest sessions being presented. Dr. Fox is a dynamic educator presenting several interest sessions. We also need our inspiring choral music educators to share their tried and true methods that inspire teachers and students alike. If you have developed teaching strategies or incorporated ways of instruction that focus on providing diverse experiences that include all students, we hope you will consider submitting an interest session. If the idea of presenting a session by yourself is overwhelming, why not consider teaming up with a colleague to plan and present a session together. Perhaps put together a panel of many colleagues who share their wisdom and experience to present a session. If you have a passion for diversity and inclusion in your choral classroom, you will definitely want to attend the 2023 MMC.The MSVMA Planning Committee hopes you will consider submitting an interest session to share your insightful practices and creative teaching techniques that will inspire all who attend.

Student leadership in the choral classroom provides the opportunity for emerging leaders to set the pace musically, organizationally and inspirationally within their choir community. Recognizing the potential of young people early offers them time to consider the type of leadership style that fits with their values and beliefs. Consciously considering the leadership styles that they are experiencing in their daily lives creates an awareness of effective leadership and its impact.
MSVMA has created a conference experience designed to encourage and develop the leadership skills and knowledge of our high school and college student leaders. Our second Student Leadership Conference will be held at Michigan State University in the Billman Music Pavilion on Wednesday, June 22, 2022. Our clinician is Dr. Matthew Arau. Dr. Arau is not a stranger to Michigan where he has led leadership workshops for several years. For more information regarding Dr. Arau, check out: www.upbeatglobal.com
MSVMA High School directors may send up to 10 students. The registration fee is $50/student. This fee includes conference materials and lunch.
