Be sure to talk with your students about the Honors Choir Intensive at the virtual Michigan Youth Arts Festival on May 15th. Invitations have been sent to those who participated in the Virtual Honors Choir videos last winter. Participation Fees:
$30 - Invited soloists and ensembles who only wish to submit a video for an evening performance
$50 - Individuals who would like to participate in the Saturday workshops

**Note** Individuals from an invited ensemble may choose to participate in the Saturday events, but they each must register and pay the $50 workshop participant fee.

2022 Michigan Music Conference Call for Interest Sessions 

 

Planning for the 2022 Michigan Music Conference is underway. Edith Copley from Northern Arizona University will be the MSVMA headliner. In addition to the sessions Dr. Copley will present, the planning committee is looking for interest sessions that will inspire MSVMA members to Rebuild, Restore, Reinforce. With 2020-2021 being anything but normal, many programs will be building during the 2021/2022 school year with foundational skills. Some topic ideas, but not limited to, for each of the 3 R are:

 

Rebuild - 

Building skills

Recruitment

Working with smaller choirs

Rewriting music with unique voicing to meet the needs of students

 

Restore  - 

Love of singing

Emotional and social support

Self-care

Inspirational programming

Building community

 

Reinforce -

Back to basics

Conducting

Music theory

Incorporating technology

 

We are planning with great optimism we will be able to meet together in Grand Rapids for the 2022 conference. The MSVMA Planning Committee hopes you will consider submitting an interest session to share your insightful practices and creative teaching techniques that will inspire all who attend. 

 

Be sure you have the MMC 2022 dates marked on your calendar -  January 27, 28 & 29, 2022.

Choral Music Education Scholarship Available

Is one of your students pursuing a degree in choral music education? Please share the following opportunity for a $10,000 scholarship paid in increments of $1,250 per semester for the duration of a 4-year college degree.    

 
Eligibility requirements include the following which must be met or maintained:

  • Applicant must graduate from a MSVMA member high school.

  • Applicant must be enrolled in choral music education at an approved school (Click here for list of schools)

  • Scholarship recipient must maintain a 3.0 GPA and remain in good standing in their program as a full-time student.

 Encourage the next generation of choral music educators to take full advantage of this opportunity. Application deadline is May 1, 2020 for the 2021-2022 academic school year. The recipient will be contacted by the middle of May and will be announced at the 2021 Summer Conference.

The Carolyn F. Leep Scholarship

Did you know that MSVMA awards scholarships to members pursuing an advanced degree or who wish to enroll in a non-degree choral music institute or workshop?  Potential areas of study include choral conducting, composition with emphasis on choral/vocal music, vocal music education and church music with vocal/choral emphasis.
 
Applicants must have at least three years teaching experience in Michigan and be able to return to MSVMA activities after using the scholarship. 
Applications are reviewed by the Carolyn F. Leep Scholarship Committee which is chaired by the past president. Have questions, contact markkrempski@msvma.org.

Scholarship must be used by April 15, 2023

MSVMA celebrates and honors the memory of Robert Sabourin, an esteemed MSVMA Emeritus who passed away last week. Bob served MSVMA as president and received the Teacher of the Year award during his career in Midland.
