State Transfer Form

High School State Choral Festival is for the express purpose of improving, promoting, and assisting vocal music education by encouraging excellence in performance. It is a means of experiencing a larger educational setting on a state-wide level and should be educationally valid for the student as well as the music director.
  • To be eligible a choir must be comprised of 17 or more students from within the high school of the school district and must have received qualifying scores of Superior or Excellent at District Choral Festival.
  • To be eligible for a rating, each participating group must sing three selections. One of the three must be chosen from the approved list found on the MSVMA website. At least one selection must be sung a cappella, which means without pitched or non-pitched instrumental accompaniment. An infraction here will result in no rating being issued. The selections should be of a contrasting nature. Popular, show tunes, vocal jazz, barbershop, gospel, or novelty selections are not to be used. Choreography is not allowed.
  • Maximum stage time is 15 minutes. This time includes the performance of the three pieces and the time needed to enter and exit the stage. Choirs with large enrollments are advised to carefully time performance selections to allow for enough time for entering and exiting.
  • Performing choirs must provide four copies of the selections with measures numbered, or no rating will be issued.
  • No TBA‘s for literature choices will be accepted.
  • Choirs using illegally reproduced copies of music will not receive a rating.
  • Following the performance, each choir will receive a clinic session with one of the adjudicators in a separate room.
  • There will be no sight reading for this event.
  • Any changes in the repertoire must be phoned or emailed to the Festival Supervisor no later than one week prior to the first day of the festival. Changes in repertoire after this will result in no rating issued.
  • Purchase orders are acceptable, but event supervisors must receive payment no later than one (1) week prior to the event. Payment for purchase orders is required. Schedules will not be sent until payment is received. Once fees are received, they are non-fundable.
  • Every attempt will be made to honor performance day and time requests. Furthermore, schools sending multiple groups cannot be assured of having them scheduled on the same day. Choirs may be scheduled to sing as early as 8 am or as late as 10 pm.
  • Adjudicators from in state and outside Michigan will be selected for this event.
  • All questions should be directed to the Site Supervisor.

Choirs receiving a final determination of Superior or Excellent at District Choral Festival shall qualify to participate in State Choral Festival

  • Transfers will be considered if the requested site is closer to the member school unless a large number of transfer requests could overload any site.
  • Transfers may also be granted when state events conflict with schools‘ spring breaks or state testing.
