Provided is a list of helpful hints and information about some of the festival and activities available to you as an MSVMA member.

Honors Choirs auditions will be held in October for high school and junior high/middle school students. These auditions are open to high school singers and junior high/middle school duets (SA), trios (SSA), and quartets (SATB).


Chamber Choir and Pop & Vocal Jazz Festivals are non-adjudicated festivals, most of which are held in the fall at sites around the state.


District Solo and Ensemble Festivals are held in January or February in each district for soloists and small and large ensembles. Some districts hold separate festivals for JH/MS students. Be sure to carefully review the details on performance and sight-reading when planning for this festival.


State Solo & Ensemble Festivals are open to any soloist (HS grades 9-12) or ensemble receiving a Division I rating at District Solo & Ensemble Festival. Festivals are held in late March and April at various sites.


District Choral Festivals are generally held in March in each district. Participants are choirs of 17 or more students ENROLLED in the class. Be sure to carefully review the details on performance and Sight Reading when planning for this festival.


State Choral Festivals are open to any choir receiving qualifying scores at District Choral Festival. Festivals are held at the end of April, and beginning of May at various sites.


Michigan Youth Arts Festival
  • Invitational Recitals present up to 14 large and small ensembles selected by the adjudicators (and the final listening panel) at all sites of the State Solo and Ensemble Festivals; and 12 soloists, grades 10-12, as selected by adjudicators at all sites of the State Solo and Ensemble Festivals.
  • Two outstanding high school choirs, chosen to perform by blind audition, are showcased at the Gala Concert.
  • All performers in the Michigan Youth Arts Festival are required to pay a registration fee administered by the festival.
